A 23-year-old Indian student, who had gone missing in the UK last month, has been discovered deceased in the river Thames in London. Mitkumar Patel had arrived in the UK in September to pursue further studies and was reported missing on November 17. On November 21, the Metropolitan Police located his body in the river Thames near the Canary Wharf area in east London, and paramedics confirmed his passing. The Met Police has stated that they do not suspect any foul play in his death. In response to the tragedy, a Go Fund Me online campaign was initiated by Parth Patel, a relative of Mitkumar.
Since its launch last week, the campaign has successfully raised over GBP 4,500. In the appeal for donations, it is mentioned that Mitkumar Patel was a 23-year-old student who came to the UK on September 19, 2023, for higher education. The appeal also highlights his rural background and his disappearance on November 17, 2023. His body was found in the water near Canary Wharf by the police on November 21. The appeal further states that the purpose of the fundraising is to support Mitkumar's family and facilitate the repatriation of his body to India. It assures donors that the funds will be securely transferred to his family in India.
According to a report by the 'Standard' newspaper, the student had plans to relocate to Sheffield on November 20, where he would commence his studies at Sheffield Hallam University and also take up a part-time position at Amazon. Concern arose among his family members when he did not return from his usual walk to his London residence, prompting them to report him as missing. Subsequently, they discovered that he had unintentionally left his set of keys behind.
