Thousands flood downtown for Dallas Mega March

Thousands of people actively participated in the Mega March to support the immigration reform and unity.

The diverse crowd marched through the streets from the Guadalupe Cathedral to Dallas City Hall on Sunday.

The Dallas Mega March’s theme was “family, unity and empowerment.” People carried American flags and wrote, white red and blue as a sign of solidarity.

A Student from North Garland High School, who attended the march, had a chance to show her support.

14-year-old Leena Siraj said that it does not matter, what age you are. “You believe in what you believe in and if you believe in something, show it, support it,” she added.

Fazila Luqman, who is from Flower Mound wore a hijab covering her hair, she carried a sign that read, “Rise Up”.

Once the crowd arrived at the Dallas City Hall, the rally sung the national anthem and the pledge of allegiance.

Attorney and activist Domingo Garcia, who is the leader of Mega March said “We march because we want to send a message to the White House: Immigrants are not political piñatas to be kicked around for political points. We are human beings."

Elba Garcia, the Commissioner of Dallas County also spoke to the crowd. Garcia is the first immigrant woman to be elected to that office.

“We contribute to this beautiful country because we know this country has what we all want: the American Dream," she said.

Officer of the Dappas Police Department were patrolling the march. They watched the march closely, and did not close further details due to security reasons.

According to the Dallas Police Department about 3,200 people participated in the march, it was a stark contrast to the Mega March held in 2006 that drew nearly half a million people.

The march remained completely peaceful. No arrests were made.
