Dallas Marine veteran video goes viral about dangers in Iraq

A Marine veteran from North Texas posted a video on Facebook on a topic which is now being discussed by millions of people around the world.

Steven Gern from Dallas in support of President Trump's travel ban, said that the growing hostility in Iraq, where he is working at the time, should be proof that travel restrictions were necessary. He said that the tension and danger for the people of US abroad has increased since the travel ban started.

Gern said that he cannot go out in town there. Then why should immigrants go out in towns of America.

He said that he was just trying to inform people about what is happening on the ground of one of the banned countries.

Gern is a private security contractor in Iraq; he posted the video on Facebook last week. Since the posting it has got millions of views. When the views grew to five million, Gren said that he got a call from his security director, who told Gern that he only got 30 minutes and they need to get Gren out of the country, as his life was in danger.

Gern’s post has been viewed 44 million times. The video describes a question he asks the people of Iraq on his security team about Donald Trump’s travel ban.

Gern asked "As an American, if he went out in town right now, would he be welcomed? And they instantly said, ‘Absolutely not. You would not be welcome.’” “And he said, ‘Ok.

He asked what would happen if he went out in town?’ And they said the locals would snatch Gern up and kill him within an hour.”

Gern is not the only person who believes the immigration ban has increased tension.

In April 2003, Allen Vaught an Army captain stationed in Fallujah, he worked closely with the Iraqi people. A half dozen of his colleagues were killed over the years, his contacts say, because they worked with Americans. Those contacts tell Vaught the locals were surprised by the immigration ban and that many view it as anti-Muslim.

He also said “Based upon little information from inside of Iraq that it has increased the recruiting ability for the Islamic State organization, therefore the threat to Americans has gone up.

Gern quickly said that not all Iraqis were bad, but he said “for all those who are good, there is a huge number that are not. Also For the ones those are good and would stand up for Americans, they would not do it in their own country because if they do, they will be killed."

Gern said that he was not trying to incite anyone with the post, he just felt compelled to let people know what's happening inside one of the "banned" countries.
