Residents panic stricken after fertilizer plant explosion

Over 14 people are now reportedly dead after the toll rose today morning with the officials finding two more bodies at the West Fertilizer where an explosion took place injuring over 200 people. Though there was no cause of the explosion known immediately, it is being suspected that the huge amounts of explosive fertilizer Ammonium nitrate being housed in the plant.

Over 540,000 pounds of ammonium nitrate was housed in the storage building, which is 100 times the amount that is involved in the Murrah Federal Building destruction that Timothy McVeigh, the bomber, used. The explosion was so massive that near by areas were evacuated. Even residents of Arlington were affected.

Metal prices that were shred from the plant were found in areas surrounding the Wst Fertilizer. Evacuated people had little time to take their most important needs from their homes. Several people had nothing but a few clothes and their family together as they were scurried away from their own houses.

Authorities have been telling them that they cannot go back to their houses yet until the areas are cleared for residential use by the authorities in the place conducting the tests.

Ammonium nitrate is a potential fertilizer that is capable of being used as a major weapon in terrorism and hence its levels have always been monitored by the federal authorities. It is unclear what caused the fire and explosion or even if someone knew about the storage of such large quantities being stored at the location. It is being dealt as a criminal case initially to make sure that the no angles of the case are left undealt.
